Jordan Samardali has been doing it tough in Glasgow.

And that is why a medal will be a great reward for the WA boxer.

Samardali only needs to win his next bout in the 81kg class today to be guaranteed a place on the podium.

The 20-year-old, who trains under the guidance of renowned WA coach Pat Devellerez, has had to battle two difficult opponents and some negative reaction from the crowd to advance to a third-round battle with Kennedy St Pierre, of Mauritius, at the SECC Precinct in central Glasgow.

Little separates the pair in terms of height and weight but St Pierre has had an easy path to the clash with a walkover in the first round and a 3-0 points decision over Ghana's David Akankolim on Sunday.

Samardali has claimed two split-decision victories, including a 2-1 result over Samoan Hugo Fata Kalepi that wasn't well received by everyone in the stands.

"I didn't notice the crowd reaction at the end and the most important thing is that I've moved another step closer to a medal," Samardali said.

"Both of my fights have ended in split decisions so I really am doing it the hard way but I think I'm improving with every bout."
