Russian rhythmic gymnasts will not participate in the Paris Olympics due to admission conditions, Russian outlet Match TV reported, citing Irina Viner, head of the Federation, and the national team’s head coach.

The decision stems from a desire to represent Russia proudly rather than as a “neutral” entity.

“Our rhythmic gymnastics team, coaches, and athletes have been clear from the start: they refuse to perform under a neutral flag or comply with extensive requirements that dilute their national identity,” Viner said.

“Our team thrives on the energy of our supporters, hearing the chants of ‘Russia’ from the stands. They made it clear they won’t participate under these conditions,” she added.

Valentina Rodionenko, head coach of the Russian gymnastics team, reiterated this stance on March 7, rejecting the notion of competing as neutral athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Additionally, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov criticized the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and its president, Thomas Bach, on March 4, alleging bias against Russian and Belarusian athletes while accommodating transgender athletes.
