Restaurants targeted in social media scam
Restaurants are being targeted by scammers sending messages on social media claiming their dad had an allergic reaction after dining at the venue.
Police have warned restaurants throughout Queensland to ignore the messages being sent to various eateries.
The message says: “Good evening sorry to message so late but this is URGENT my dad Antonio had dinner there yesterday and is now in hospital with an allergic reaction.”
“Can you contact us immediately regarding ingredients!! ASAP,” the rest says.
Police told Yahoo7 an unknown number of restaurants in Mackay and other parts of Queensland had been victims of the “false reports” made about their business.
Investigations have revealed the message is malicious.
“If you receive this message, please contact police,” Queensland Police said.
