Reporter's 'outstanding' reaction to stranger's 'disgraceful' on-air interruption

A reporter has been praised after seamlessly continuing a live broadcast despite a rogue member of the public making a bizarre attempt to plant a kiss on her cheek.

Katie Bradford was reporting for TVNZ’s 1 News program from Auckland on Thursday when a woman approached her from behind and projected a pout towards the side of her face.

Without a single stutter, Bradford continued her report on the New Zealand government’s planned $12 billion package for infrastructure while driving a subtle elbow into the intruder’s body.

Her professionalism was celebrated in posts to social media following the segment, including one from retired broadcaster Keith Quinn.

“Congratulations Katie Bradford for carrying on superbly when (a) silly person tried to interrupt her on TV1 tonight. Name and shame surely!,” he wrote in a tweet.

“Outstanding focus from Katie Bradford during a 1 News NZ live cross as a random lady tries to kiss her,” another tweet read.

“After tonight’s performance Katie Bradford is the undeniable Queen of live crosses. Unflappable,” someone else said.

Bradford responded saying the sudden invasion of her personal space initially left her “shaking”.

“I think I’ve stopped shaking now but holy hell that was freaky,” she wrote.

Others condemned the intruder, who appeared quite impressed with the the stunt she managed to pull off.

“Disgraceful. Proud of you Katie Bradford for giving her a subtle elbow in the ribs and carrying on like a true pro.”
