Just minutes after hiring a car, a tourist crashed the car and nearly hit pedestrians, a witness said.

“Never a dull moment in Cairns,” the post said.

According to the Facebook post, a tourist from Spain hired the car at 11 am, by 11.30am, the tourist had crashed into the kerb and another car.

“In the three different countries I've lived in, I've never come across driving as bad as Cairns,” a person commented.

Just like road rules, laws and driving regulations differ from state to state in Australia.

Some states will require tourists to carry an International licence, as well as their own foreign licence.

In Queensland, travellers and tourists are allowed to drive if they have a valid overseas licence. After three months, if someone from overseas is issued a resident visa, they will need to apply for a Queensland driver’s licence.

In some states like NSW, people from overseas have to provide an official translation of their overseas licence, if the documentation is not written in English.
