Red Funnel: Island crossings disrupted due to ferry repairs

Sailings between Southampton and the Isle of Wight are being disrupted after an issue with a vehicle ferry.

Red Funnel said extended works were being carried out on its Red Eagle vessel.

Passengers set to sail on a car ferry to, or from, Southampton or Cowes have been warned of delays and cancellations.

The ferry firm has apologised to travellers for any inconvenience to their journeys.

The cancelled vehicle ferry crossings from Southampton are 08:00 BST,11:00,14:00,17:00 and 20:15.

From Cowes, the 09:30,12:30,15:30,18:30 and 21:45 crossings have been cancelled.

The ferry firm said the problem on the ferry was an issue with its aft voith unit - the propeller driven by the main engine.

It said work to fix it was expected to be completed in the next 24 hours.

The vehicle ferries, Red Falcon and Red Osprey, are both running.

Its high-speed services across the Solent are also running as normal.
