Record Number of Critically Endangered California Condor Chicks Hatch at Oregon Zoo

Ten critically endangered California condor chicks hatched at the Oregon Zoo’s Jonsson Center for Wildlife Conservation in Portland this season, the biggest batch born in the zoo’s 18-year conservation effort.

Footage shared by the zoo via a June 15 press release shows one of the 10 chicks. “We have more chicks than ever this year, which is fantastic news for the recovery effort,” Kelli Walker, the zoo’s lead condor keeper, said in the press release. “It’s a significant step forward for this critically endangered species.”

According to the zoo, the final chick of the season hatched on May 22.
