Real estate agent's unfortunate typo in for sale ad

A real estate agent has made an awkward typo in a property advertisement.

At first glance it looks like any ordinary two-bedroom Melbourne home for sale, but a closer inspection of the description spruiking the property may make potential buyers have second thoughts.

The Ray White ad gaffe described Reservoir as a thieving suburb instead of thriving.

“Situated in the thieving suburb of Reservoir this modern double storey townhouse boasting relaxed, easy living is on offer to you,” the ad said.

Ray White has since corrected the advertisement, but the typo may leave people wondering if Reservoir is a safe suburb or not.

Reservoir is located in the City of Darebin where theft is the most common crime to occur, according to Victoria’s Crime Statistics Agency.

There were about 5329 thefts in the Darebin area in 2018. Burglary and break and enter are the second most common crimes in Darebin, with 1387 incidences recorded in 2018.

The theft rate in Darebin is double that of neighbouring local government area Banyule, which recorded just 2502 thefts in 2018.

The City of Yarra, also next to Darebin, recorded 5107 thefts.

The home, which will be auctioned on March 2, is located in a quiet pocket of the suburb in Melbourne’s north and is close to schools and a train station.
