'My world has been rocked': Mum of three dies after two-week flu battle

A mother of three has died after a two-week battle with the flu which became “too much for her body to handle” when it developed into a secondary infection and pneumonia.

Queensland woman Jacinta Foulds died on Tuesday evening, leaving behind her three young children – Lily, 11, Cory, 9, and seven-year-old Indy – and her “soulmate” Daniel Foulds.

In a heartbreaking post to a GoFundMe page and Facebook, Mr Foulds detailed how his “world has been rocked” by his sudden loss.

“I said goodbye to my best friend and soulmate taken from me way too soon. It’s a very tough moment so rather than fielding phone calls and messages, I’m putting it up so all my friends and family can see,” he wrote.

“Jacinta Foulds my beautiful wife lost her fight as she was extremely sick with Influenza A. As a result she caught a secondary infection as well as pneumonia and it was too much for body to handle.”

Mr Foulds said his partner “fought hard all the way” as expected, but in the end fell victim to the cruel infection.

“I’m really struggling and am trying to hold it together for my three kids. Jacinta Foulds taken too soon and forever in my heart and soul. RIP my true love.”

Tributes have flooded Ms Foulds’ Facebook profile, with many sharing photos of the woman in her 30s along with fond memories they shared with her.

“Life is not fair. It’s so hard to think I’m not going to hear your voice again except for the msgs (sic) we have sent one another,” one friend wrote.

“RIP my dear dear friend. My memories of you shall live on in my heart forever. Thank you for everything you did and everything that you are. Nothing will ever be the same again,” another said.

“Jacinta had a hard shell but the softest centre. A great mum, wife, friend and all round good person. She was quirky, kind, smart and funny. Taken too young and too suddenly,” someone else wrote.

While sub contractor Mr Foulds grapples with his sudden loss, the family have appealed for help in financially supporting him.

“If he doesn't work he doesn't get paid. Right now, he needs to be prioritising their children and whilst they are going through this stage of grief he may not be able to work,” a family friend shared to Facebook.

Those hoping to contribute, can make a donation via his GoFundMe page.
