Landlord receives abusive message after exposing Irish scammers

More than 20 Irish tourists have fled Australia after allegedly scamming at least a dozen businesses across south east Queensland.

The final four have now been placed on airport watch lists around the country.

They're accused of a string of serious crimes, but police admit even they may be allowed to leave unpunished.

After their brazen behaviour, two men and two women are believed to still be in Australia after most of their accomplices, including children, fled.

Police say upwards of 20 people have left in the past 24 hours, taking a number a flights out of Sydney airport headed for Asia.

"We weren't satisfied there was enough [evidence] that we could actually have them detained and arrested and extradited back from New South Wales," Detective Superintendent Tony Fleming of Queensland Police said.

The four left behind, who have now gone to ground, are allegedly responsible for the most financial ruin, with the men linked to roofing fraud targeting elderly residents.

They are also accused of trashing brand new apartments in Brisbane.

Seven News spoke exclusively to landlord Clara Carmichael on Friday and she has since received an abusive phone message for speaking out, which calls her a "dirty smelly Aus slapper."

Police now have to decide whether to arrest the final four if they try to leave.

They are adamant the group won't be let back into the country once they leave and are working with Border Force officials to make it difficult for "the final four" and their 20-plus accomplices to enter into any other countries.

No other victims have come forward in recent days, suggesting that the media attention has forced the group to end its crime spree - at least for now.
