WATCH: Man vanishes after leaping from moving car during police chase

Shocking video shows the moment a man managed to evade police by leaping from a moving car before it dropped down an embankment during a pursuit.

Queensland Police released dashcam vision of the man's dangerous stunt, shortly after he is pulled over at 2.15am on December 30 in Grasstree Beach near Sarina.

The video shows the man making a u-turn instead of stopping for police and even when he realises he has driven down a dead end, he refuses to give himself up.

After noticing there is an embankment ahead, the driver leaps from the moving vehicle before it crashes over the edge.

He rolls onto the grass, stands up and then falls down again. He then runs from the area and hasn't been found by police since.

Police say the blue 1999 Toyota Camry sedan was stolen from a hotel in Mackay on December 14.

During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly located two sets of stolen registration plates and other property believed to have been stolen from recent break and enters in the area.

The man is described as Caucasian, early 20’s, 170cm tall and has a medium build and wearing white overhead earphones.

Police have released dashcam footage of the man and are urging anyone who may recognise him to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
