More Brisbane bus strike action as another driver is assaulted
A Brisbane bus driver has been assaulted, another victim in what has been a spate of recent attacks in Queensland.
In this attack, the driver was allegedly followed into his depot by a cyclist, where he claims he was punched in the face.
On Wednesday afternoon the bus driver made a formal complaint to police, saying the cyclist smelled of alcohol.
According to the Rail, Tram and Bus Union, the argument was over who had right of way.
They say the incident is another reason bus driver safety needs to be improved.
"The drivers will not be happy, especially as it happened in the depot, where drivers are supposed to be safe," Tom Brown from the Rail, Tram and Bus Union said.
"We are doing all that we can in terms of protecting bus drivers, but again, the unions are playing politics with this," Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said.
More strike action on Thursday will see union workers walk off the job for eight hours during non-peak periods.
A City Hall rally is also planned at lunchtime.
More City Cat buses will operate at night to get people home.
Drivety safety - and salaries - are key aspects of the long-running dispute between Brisbane council and bus drivers.
