Heartbroken children, parents pay tribute to racers who died 'doing what they loved'

The father of one of two best mates killed in a highspeed crash at Queensland’s Willowbank raceway over the weekend says his son died doing what he loved.

Kurt Bull and Daniel King leave behind partners and young children and, on Monday, friends and family were rallying around them.

For Sophie and Tyson King, losing their dad doesn’t seem real.

“I love him and wish he’d come back… and I wish that one day I would see him again,” Sophie said.

Kurt Bull was behind the wheel of his modified Monaro that crashed at the Queensland Racebook.

Mr King was the passenger.

Witnesses pulled both men from the wreck before it burst into flames.

Friends tried to revive them.

“To me, they are my heroes,” Kurt’s father Clayton Bull said.

“They tried to bring my boy back…”

But the impact was too severe.

Early investigations indicate the car had a jammed throttle.

Clayton Bull said his son died doing what he loved in the safest place possible.

He was a big believer in controlled racetracks which provide an alternative to street racing.

“Every sport takes a life,” Clayton said.

Mr Bull's greatest love was to be with his wife and his girls.

“That's one part we just haven't fulfilled. But I'll take that part on for him,” Clayton said.
