Attack on Gold Coast cab driver caught on camera
Shocking video of a 66-year-old taxi driver being attacked on the Gold Coast has been obtained by 7 News.
Police say the driver had tried to stop the trio from running off when they attacked him over a $6.50 fare.
One young man landed a left hook to the driver's face before another kicked him in the stomach.
The incident happened at 8:30 on Friday morning in an Ashmore Shopping Centre car park.
Despite the age gap, the courageous cabbie didn't back down, demanding the group pay for the service he delivered.
Benjamin Lee from Gold Coast Cabs told 7 News the industry does not want to see drivers taking "matters into their own hands".
"Obviously we don't encourage our drivers to take matters into their own hands but all of our vehicles are fitted with safety equipment, they have duress buttons, we've got security cameras fitted," he said.
Police are now reviewing pictures from those security cameras to try to track down the trio.
As for the tough taxi driver, he finished his shift.
