WATCH: The moment police catch tourist accused of hammer and stabbing Airbnb attack

Seven News has filmed the moment a Singapore tourist, accused of bashing a woman in the head with a hammer before stabbing her, was arrested at the Brisbane Airbnb rental the attack took place.

His dramatic arrest at 2pm on Tuesday follows an overnight manhunt after the 31-year-old arrived in the country on Sunday.

Seven News went to the Norman Park property to speak with the Airbnb host where the crime allegedly took place.

The crew called police and officers soon arrived to arrest the man.

It's alleged his 20-year-old victim had been visiting him at the Norman Park house he was staying at when she was struck in the head and then stabbed in the upper body with a knife about 9.30pm on Monday.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Rod Watts said the pair had previously been in a relationship for a period of months after meeting online.

It was not the first time the man had come to Australia to meet the woman, who originally came from Hong Kong, he said.

It is believed the owners of the house overheard the attack, causing the man to flee without his wallet or passport and wearing only boxer shorts and a t-shirt.

The woman was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital after suffering a fractured skull and a number of stab wounds, and is recovering in a stable condition.

The woman was very lucky to have escaped more severe injuries, Sgt Watts said.
