Top secret set built in Qld for Hollywood blockbuster
FIRST ON SEVEN: The set for the upcoming Hollywood blockbuster, Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales, is taking shape at a top secret location in south-east Queensland.
7 News has exclusively revealed a first look at the closely guarded site.
The set is under construction on private property in a rural community of the Gold Coast hinterland.
Its location will remain a mystery to prevent neighbours being inundated with fans.
Dead Men Tell No Tales is the fifth instalment of the multi-million dollar franchise and is the biggest movie ever to be made in Australia.
It will be shot at locations across Queensland, including Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast and Port Douglas.
Some of Hollywood’s biggest names such as Johnny Depp, Brenton Thwaites and Javier Bardem will travel to Australia for filming, which is expected to commence in early 2015.
Neighbours like Michaela Radick are eagerly waiting for the stars.
“I cannot wait! I can’t believe the celebrities are going to come down our street,” she said.
Another resident De-Arne Turner is monitoring the set’s construction.
“It’s not very often that you get a big movie going up in your neighbourhood,” she said.
“We’ve been seeing it go up from the start.
“It’s wonderful for the community and the locals and bringing people in,” Ms Turner said.
Queensland secured production rights to the film after the state and federal governments offered Walt Disney Studios $21.6 million and payroll tax exemptions.
The movie is expected to be released in cinemas worldwide in July 2017.
