Plans announced for $100m Gold Coast cableway

Plans have been announced to build a $100m cableway from Neranwood, west of Mudgeeraba up to Springbrook in the Gold Coast hinterland, called the Gold Coast Skyride.

If the project receives all the necessary approvals it will be up and running before the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the route of the cableway would cover a distance of about 9km.

CEO Terry Moore said the economic boost the project would provide during construction and operation was exciting.

He also said the project was 'real and achievable', unlike other recent proposals which had no chance of approval.

"The route stacks up, it is economically feasible to construct, it is in exactly the right location and it can be delivered with no negative environmental impacts of financial risk to the State Government, the Gold Coast City Council or the people of the Gold Coast.

"The Gold Coast has to keep re-inventing itself to stay at the forefront of the Australian tourism sector and Gold Coast Skyride will give the city an exciting and new tourism attraction that will entice people throughout Australia and the world," he said.

The Gold Coast Skyride is expected to be the first major Gold Coast tourism infrastructure project since the launch of Movie World 13 years ago.
