Pregnant woman found on roadside with baby stolen from womb

After a pregnant woman's body was found on the side of the road, another woman has been accused of hiring a hitman to kill her and cut her unborn baby out of her womb.

On April 9, in the village of Chacua, in Colombia, a woman was found dead on the side of the road, with horrific cuts to her throat, face and abdomen.

She was found half-naked. Blood-stained clothes were found nearby. Her hands were bound and her intestines were hanging out.

Authorities believe she was killed on the night of April 8. When she was found, she was partially eaten by carrion birds.

The woman was later identified as Sandra Johanna Alvarez Solano, a 37-year-old who was born in Garagoa, north of the Colombian capital of Bogota.

Hitman hired to kill and steal unborn child

Soacha mayor Juan Carlos Saldarriaga said Ms Solano was homeless and it is believed a woman hired a hitman to kill Ms Solano and steal her unborn child. At the time of the murder, Ms Solano was 37-weeks pregnant.

Mr Saldarriaga said the perpetrator was paid 15 million pesos ($A5500) to carry out the act.

Yadira Alexandra Yepes Sotelo, 23, is suspected of authorising the murder, she has been arrested and has allegedly admitted her guilt.

Ms Sotelo reportedly lost her own baby two months earlier and failed to inform her partner or relatives of the miscarriage, faking the continuation of her pregnancy. She then tried to pass the stolen baby off as her own.

The crime was reportedly discovered when her family took her and the newborn to the hospital after she apparently gave birth suddenly.

There, doctors found she lacked the physical characteristics and hormonal load of a recently pregnant woman.

CCTV shows baby carried away

Ms Sotelo was questioned by police, who noticed she was nervous and found inconsistencies in her statements.

Later, CCTV footage showed Ms Sotelo walking with a baby in her arms, along with two men in a rural area near where the body was found.

She reportedly has a criminal record for aggravated theft and was under house arrest for another murder at the time of the latest crime.

The baby is under the care of the Colombian Family Welfare Institute (ICBF) and is said to be in good health.

Police are now attempting to find the two suspected material authors of the crime.

The three are believed to have lured the victim by inviting her to consume hallucinogens in the area where her body was found.

It was there that the men allegedly used a knife to commit the crime, leaving the victim to bleed to death.

Ms Sotelo has reportedly been charged with aggravated homicide, torture and trafficking of children and adolescents.
