'Never seen anything like it': Pregnant woman goes into labour during flight

A mum has good reason to name her baby girl Sky after going into labour on board a flight.

Nereida Araujo was on board a flight heading to North Carolina on Wednesday from Florida when she went into labour as the plane prepared to land.

Ms Araujo told WSOCTV9 she was sleeping when she felt a pop in her lower back.

The woman was travelling with her husband and their two children.

"I just felt like liquid and I woke my husband up,” Ms Araujo told the station.

At that moment, she knew her baby was on the way. She was 11 days early and had been cleared to fly by her airline and doctor.

Luckily, a passenger on board with medical experience helped the mum deliver the baby.

The pilots also sped up the landing to ensure the baby could safely arrive on the ground inside the plane.

Lizyana Sky Taylor was born without any complications.

Eric Linne, who was at the airport, told NBC he’s “never seen anything like that”.

“There was a huge applause," Mr Linne said.

"You could just tell people were really happy.”

Ms Aruajo added the people who helped her deliver her baby “did an amazing job”.
