Powerball has started the new year with a bang as the jackpot rockets to a huge $100m for the next draw.

More than half of Australian adults are expected to enter into the draw next week to win their share in the prize money.

The eye-watering amount is a result of no division one winners across the past four Powerball draws.

The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said all eyes would be on Thursday’s draw.

“Next Thursday’s draw is only the eighth time in Powerball’s 28-year history that it has offered a $100 million prize,” he said.

Mr Hart said only time will tell when it comes to next week’s winner “making history”.

“If just one player wins the entire jackpot, they’ll not only receive a massive boost to their bank account, but they’ll also share the crown of Australia’s second biggest individual lottery winner ever”.

It comes as a Bankstown dad was one of those lucky people who became Australia’s second-biggest lottery winner with $100 million in June last year.

“We’re sure most Powerball players are already dreaming about what they’d do for the rest of 2024 and beyond if they took home a slice of $100 million. The holiday of a lifetime, immediate retirement, your perfect home and all your other dreams could be a reality,” Mr Hart said.

For Aussies wanting a chance to win the $100 million jackpot, Mr Hart reminded players to purchase an entry ticket before 7.30pm AEST on Thursday January 18.

The winning numbers for draw 1444 will then be revealed an hour after entries close.

This draw will be the fifth biggest prize in Australian lottery history.
