Supermarket chain Aldi is recalling an ice-cream maker over concerns a defect could cause “serious illness” in customers.

In its product recall post, Aldi said the freezer bowl in the Ambiano soft serve ice-cream maker contained a clear coloured coolant that could leak into the ice-cream mixture if the bowl was pierced – an event that has happened before.

The risk of illness arises if the coolant is then consumed.

The model number of the product is IA5554, and it was sold between December 20, 2023 and January 5, 2024.

Aldi advises consumers to stop using the product immediately and return it to their nearest store for a full refund. A post with the same advice was made by Product Safety Australia.

“Please seek medical assistance or contact the Poisons Information Centre on 131 126 if you believe someone has consumed ice cream containing coolant,” the post said.

Aldi has a general helpline at 1300 777 137.
