Police surround unit after reported sighting of man wanted over body in barrel
Police have surrounded an address on the Sunshine Coast following a reported sighting of the man wanted over a body found in a barrel south of Brisbane.
Officers are currently at Alexandra Headland over the reported sighting of 34-year-old Zlatko Sirkosky.
An exclusion zone has been put into place after being made active at about 3.25pm.
Officers are negotiating with a man inside the building and Queensland Police has declared an emergency situation for Juan Street.
“Residents located inside the declared area are asked to remain indoors and members of the public are asked to avoid the area,” police said in a statement.
“The man is believed to be alone inside the unit. There is no further information that can be provided at this time.”
One resident said police told him the man was “locked up inside”.
“It’s a bit scary but it’s good that they’ve surrounded him,” he said.
Another, in the apartment block next door, told Yahoo7 he could hear the man on the phone.
“(He) doesn’t want to get shot, wants to talk to his father and girlfriend,” he said.
He said it was otherwise quiet in the area.
A police officer said authorities “are quite comfortable” they have the “situation contained” but he still stressed that people should stay indoors.

Sikorsky has remained on the run after fleeing police in a black ute on Wednesday afternoon.
A ute was then found with a badly decomposing body in a barrel on the back of the tray in a housing estate.
Police were searching for Sikorsky and it was believed he was travelling in a silver 2014 Holden Commodore with Queensland registration 966 WKB.
While the body is yet to be identified there are fears it is 16-year-old Larissa Beilby, who was reportedly in a relationship with the 34-year-old.
Queensland Police confirmed the 16-year-old girl, who went missing from Sandgate on Brisbane’s northside on June 15, was “associated” with wanted man Zlatko Sikorsky, but refused to elaborate on how they knew one another.
