Two officers injured after P-plate driver slams into stopped patrol car

Two police officers are injured after their fully-marked highway patrol vehicle was hit by another car while stopped on the side of a road in the Blue Mountains.

The two officers were driving along Hawkesbury Road toward Springwood shortly before 5.30pm on Thursday when they stopped a driver to issue a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive result, according to NSW Police.

The officers were sitting in their vehicle when they were then hit from behind by a P-plate driver in a Land Rover Discovery, which then rolled.

Both police were taken to Nepean Hospital suffering bruising and suspected neck injuries.

NSW police told Yahoo News Australia one officer was treated and released, while the other remains in hospital and is awaiting further tests.

The driver of the first car and the P-plate driver were not injured.

The driver who allegedly who returned a positive roadside breath test has been arrested and was taken to Springwood Police Station for the purposes of a breath analysis.
