Police investigate Cockatoo stabbing

Police have released an image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with a fatal stabbing in Cockatoo last night.

The 38-year-old victim died overnight after suffering multiple stab wounds to the abdomen in a dispute with a visitor to his home.

The wanted man is believed to be known as Max, aged in his thirties, with a medium build and short dark hair and was driving a white Sedan.

The victim's father, who also lives at the single-storey property in Caroline Avenue, found his son in a bedroom at around 12.20am on Monday.

The initial call to police was of a possible burglary, but it quickly became clear that the dead man knew his attacker and had actually let him into his house.

Homicide Detective Sergeant Graham Ross said the victim's father heard shouting that night, followed by silence.

"He said there was an argument between his son and another male and that argument has resulted in the son dying," he told reporters at the scene.

Police are still investigating the motive for the attack, and investigating whether drugs were a factor in the killing.

Officers went door-to-door along the quiet, forested street, but there appears to be few witnesses.

Across the gravel road from the crime scene is a primary school that would have been empty at the time of the late-night slaying.

The suspect was spotted wearing a brown jacket and long pants.
