Desperate plea to save 40 cats from 'death sentence'

A desperate plea has been issued to save the lives of 40 cats after several were left to breed out of control in the garage of an elderly woman’s home.

Both adult cats and kittens need saving from a garage in Kingsford, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, before next Tuesday when they will be taken by council workers.

‘Cat Rescue and Foster Carers Sydney Australia’ has launched an online campaign to have the animals re-homed before they are taken and euthanised.

“All these innocent cats will be murdered by a Sydney Council on Tuesday as their 90-year-old owner has left them to breed out of control,” a Facebook post from the organisation said.

“They do not deserve a death sentence so I am appealing to the public to help me help these innocent souls.”

Rescue groups were called on to take a few cats each and asked to contact the page with offers of assistance.

“This is very distressing for me as I believe every animal deserves to live. But come Tuesday if cats are still at this property they will be trapped and murdered,” the post read.

More than 400 people responded to the post, some indicating their willingness to help.

“My family is more than willing to take on and save a life. Please reply or inbox us with what we can do to help,” one person wrote in a comment.

Many expressed compassion for the elderly lady and speculated perhaps she believed she was doing the right thing by keeping them at her home.

“Someone has really let that elderly lady down, bloody hell what a sad situation for all involved especially the cats who have done nothing wrong,’ a second person said.
