Nasty highway crash divides opinion after car stops to let truck switch lanes

What seemed like a polite gesture from a driver has resulted in a three-car accident on a busy highway in Perth.

"The Mrs (sic) got rear ended on Great Eastern Highway Bypass. Old mate behind didn’t stop in time, her car was a write off," the post on the Dash Cam Owners Australia Facebook page read.

The vision showed a red Mazda stopping in moving traffic to allow an indicating B-double truck to switch lanes.

Seconds later the car filming appears to get hit from behind, which had the domino effect of sending it slamming into the red Mazda in front.

The vision has resulted in some debate over which driver was at fault, with commenters on the post giving various opinions.

Some people thought the driver of the red Mazda was the cause of the collision.

“The Mazda clearly caused all of this, what sort of a moron tries to pass a turning/merging truck?” a person asked.

“The Mazda driver panicked and stopped. It’s her fault,” another person agreed.

One person thought the truck driver missed an obvious sign.

“Obviously the truck drive driver missed the sign further back that stated left lane must turn left,” one person responded.

Another internet user suggested it was the fault of the dash cam driver.

“Legally it’s the fault of the driver who ran into the back of her,” the person wrote.

One Facebook user couldn’t decide who was at fault, but suggested some social media users head to the optometrist.

“Should have gone to Specsavers,” they joked.

One final person decided all drivers should have been paying more attention.

“Sure the truck driver was in the wrong lane but if all involved had more patience it wouldn’t have happened,” they wrote.
