Australia's slim hopes of saving the first Test against Pakistan are all but dead with the loss of three wickets after drinks on the final morning.

Resuming on 4-59 and needing a world record 438 for victory, Australia had crashed to 7-117 at lunch on day five.

Opener Chris Rogers and Steve Smith survived the first hour today, taking the score to 4-91 with a minimum of 71 overs still to face.

But soon after the resumption Rogers was undone when he missed full ball from Imran Khan which reversed and took his middle stump.

Next in was WA's Mitchell Marsh (3), who completed a modest Test debut when he was caught close in by Azhar when trying to defend left-arm spinner Zulfiqar Babar.

Brad Haddin joined Smith (31 not out) at 6-101 but he was unable to score and fell to a straight one off Barabar, who has taken four wickets.
