Man accused of being Sydney's oldest thief attacks media outside court

A man accused of being Sydney's oldest thief was ushered from court today by police after attempting to hurl a walking stick at the media.

Hamzigo Nuhic tried to make a break for it out the back of Sutherland Local Court on Monday but not before lashing out a Seven News reporter and cameraman.

His lawyer made it clear that the 78-year-old has admitted to police he broke into seven homes across Bexley, Carlton and Blakehurst between May and August in 2017.

They tried to have all charges dealt with under the mental health act, but the magistrate dismissed the application, saying the crimes were well-planned.

Nuhic was caught several times on security camera wearing a balaclava and socks on his hands.

Large amounts of his blood were found splattered right throughout one Sydney house where a side bathroom window had been smashed in the break in.

There was enough blood to allegedly match Nuhic and his DNA to this property, although he had a very quick explanation for it saying he'd been bashed by three Croatian men and they must have planted his blood inside the house.

The police facts though believe that is “highly improbable”.

Nuhic will be back in court next month.
