Wedding descends into chaos as guests brawl in carpark

What is meant to be one of the happiest days of a person's life turned to a violent nightmare for one young Sydney couple.

Their wedding, in the suburb of Bankstown, descended into chaos after a fight erupted in the car park of the venue.

Security cameras captured the carnage as a group of men were filmed kicking and punching a victim on the ground.

"I'm not sure if the whole thing started at the wedding or somewhere else, and the wedding guests came running out," one witness said.

"They were holding him up and saying 'don't take it any further', and punching him and blood came out," the man said.

Two men needed hospital treatment for multiple head injuries. Police have now launched a full scale investigation.

Meanwhile, in the suburb of Lurnea, a didgeridoo was being used as a weapon after a neighbourly dispute turned ugly.

Police were forced to spray two men with capsicum spray. One shirtless offender was handcuffed in the front yard of his own home,

"As police officers, we see more Christmas parties, more people going out and people getting together in large groups and sometimes this leads to very poor behaviour," NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Michael Corby said.

There was more violence in Botany when a night out at a local pub went out of control. Police resources were wasted yet again as ambulances filled with casualties.

"It was just crazy, it was virtually just a brawl in the middle of the street," a witness said.

From the east of Sydney to the west, officers were called to The Wallacia Hotel after reports of up to 40 people involved in yet another punch up.

"Police want to remind the public that fighting in any capacity is a criminal offence that can carry harsh penalties, but more importantly, it's extremely dangerous and can often end in tragedy," Mr Corby said.

"We've seen over the last couple of years how quickly a slight brawl or a fight escalates into a death."
