'Brave little boy' who got stuck in plug hole thanks emergency workers after dramatic rescue

We all know kids can be inquisitive, but that curiosity landed one little boy in a tricky situation after he got his fingers stuck in a plug hole.

It took a team of paramedics and police to free him and on Monday three-year-old Leo got a chance to say thank you.

When the curious toddler poked his fingers into the plug hole at bath time, he got himself into a sticky spot.

"I hear this voice go, 'I'm stuck', and I'm like, 'oh, what kind of stuck'?", Leo's mum Corinne Diener said.

Despite her initial panic, Corinne managed to keep Leo calm.

"He was pretty much back against the wall, three fingers straight down, just sort of looked at me like, 'I'm in trouble aren't I?'", she said.

She was left with no choice but to call Triple-0 after soaps and oils just didn't work in trying to get Leo's fingers out.

It took an hour to free little Leo.

"We flipped the plate out, and then once that was out, they put a film under each finger and had to cut each individual hole to get each finger out," Kahlie McLennan from NSW Ambulance said.

Each finger was a little swollen but not injured.

"I was very proud of him," Leo's mother said,

"He cried only a little bit and that was when they were trying to cut the drain off his fingers."

On Monday Leo met one of his rescuers, who gave him a Leo the Lion toy for bravery.

Today Leo had the chance to thank one of his rescuers, who described him as "a very brave little boy, sat in the bath completely oblivious to what was going on."

For mum Corinne, it was a relief that he was not seriously injured.

"He just knows now not to get inquisitive," she laughed.
