Woman finds $25m in her NAB account - but bank is ignoring her

A Sydney woman has woken up and checked her bank account to find a $24.5 million surprise.

Lawyer Clare Wainwright first discovered the millions in her National Australia Bank account on October 25, weeks after she received a letter confirming a direct debit for loan repayments had been set up.

The letter said her repayments would be $25,102,107, instead of $2500.

"I saw it and I thought 'Oh my gosh, it's 25 mil' and I laughed," she told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"I showed my broker and he said 'Oh god, I'll get them to fix it'."

But the bank did not fix the error and instead requested the $25 million from her account at St George Bank.

St George then transferred the money into her NAB account.

Ms Wainwright's account was left heavily overdrawn and she was told by a NAB representative someone would resolve the issue in three days.

But the millions are still sitting in her NAB account.

“When NAB accidentally pays out your entire mortgage, and gives you an extra $24.5mil to redraw ... do I skip the country??” she joked on Facebook.

The lawyer said she has not been tempted to spend the money as she was aware it "wouldn't play out that well."
