Sydney couple claim they were served steak 'full of worms'

A Sydney woman has made the startling claim that a steak served up at a Sydney restaurant was "full of worms".

Stella Kim and her partner had reportedly been celebrating a milestone anniversary at The Ranch Hotel in North Ryde with two friends on September 27, when they claim one cooked piece of meat arrived at the table seemingly crawling with "live worms".

Ms Kim posted a video of what appears to be small white worms or maggots on the meat, describing it as a "horrible experience."

She wrote: "We ordered steaks and one of our steak was full of worms. Live worms coming out of the steak.

"We couldn’t believe this was happening at one of the big restaurants in Australia."

The restaurant has responded online and said it has conducted a thorough investigation into the matter.

"The Hotel takes all food safety issues very seriously," a Facebook post reads.

It continued: "Our investigation concluded that the incident was due to blowfly larva laid after the meal was cooked, as it is not possible for lava to survive the cooking process.

"The Ranch Hotel served 262 steak meals on the day with no similar instances or concerns raised by any other customer."

The restaurant also said that it has been in contact with the customer to apologise.

"All our kitchen staff are experienced and accredited in food safety and The Ranch stands by its food safety record and processes."

Fairfax reports that the restaurant issued a refund for the four meals which had been ordered on the night.
