The family of the man who allegedly murdered Stephanie Scott is reportedly assisting police with inquiries as some Leeton locals vow a revenge attack.

School cleaner Vincent Stanford has been arrested for allegedly murdering the 26-year-old Leeton High School teacher and dumping her body in the bushland. Ms Scott was due to get married just days before she was killed.

The case sent shockwaves through the whole of Australia, but especially the small town of Leeton, and many have gone online to express their frustration and grief.

Mr Stanford, 24, has reportedly not been co-operating with police but his mother, Anika, and older brother, Luke, have been holed up in a local motel and are assisting detectives with their inquiries.

Leeton mayor Paul Maytom told media he had no concerns over reprisal attacks on the family despite some Leeton residents taking to social media and vowing revenge.

"I've heard more people who are concerned about what's happened with the rest of the family and wondering whether they are being looked after.

People do have concerns for how they're placed now because they're also going through the trauma. I would hope there are people helping them through this,” he said.

Meanwhile, police have reportedly widened their inquiries to the Netherlands.

Stanford moved to Leeton from Holland with his mother just over a year ago. A full background check into Stanford’s history will be run, the Daily Mail reported.

Police have also discovered one of the last actions of Scott before she was killed. She sent an email to the bus company hired for her wedding, according to Fairfax Media.

Investigations are continuing into what happened to the English and drama teacher. A post-mortem will be carried out today.
