Storms loom over Sydney
Sydney commuters were recommended to leave work early as thunderstorms, flash flooding and damaging winds lashed parts of the state today.
The Bureau of Meteorology warned of very dangerous thunderstorms near Hurstville and Kurnell, affecting Sydney City, Sydney Airport, Sydney Olympic Park and the Sydney Harbour Bridge by 8:45 pm and Parramatta, Manly and Ryde by 9:15 pm.
Destructive winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding are likely.
A spokesperson told media the public to take care as the wildest part of the New South Wales east coast's storm was expected to hit commuters.
Thunderstorms and heavy rain lashed the South Coast and Illawarra districts, developing in the Metropolitan and part of the Hunter districts in the evening.
A huge storm front wreaked havoc through the western suburbs of Sydney on Monday, dumping hail and heavy rain.
Damaging wind gusts of 70 kilometres an hour brought down at least one tree.
At the peak of the storm almost eight thousand homes were without power.

The New South Wales State Emergency Service received more than 150 calls for help.
Damaging winds around 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of 90 to 110 km/h are expected on Tuesday, along with heavy rainfall and damaging surf.
