NIN/QOTSA tour set for Perth Arena

Two of the world's biggest bands - Queens of the Stone Age and Nine Inch Nails - have officially announced plans to embark on a monster double-headline tour, due to hit Perth Arena on March 11.

The hard rock royalty have been hinting at the double-pronged run of Oz via social media for some time and whipped fans into a hot lather last week when they simultaneously posted very obvious clues on Facebook and Twitter. While the two acts have teamed up for several recordings over the years, this will be their first tour together outside the US so it's kind of a big deal.

Emerging from California's Palm Desert in the 90s, Queens of the Stone Age are no strangers to our shores.

Fronted by Josh Homme, QOTSA dropped their sixth album in June. Titled . . . Like Clockwork, it debuted at No. 1 for the first time in the US, as well as clocking in at numero uno in Australia and getting rave reviews (Triple J mag gave it 9/10).

The acclaimed LP featured fellow rock royals Dave Grohl, Elton John, Trent Reznor and a host of others. In an interview with The West Australian, Homme had a fairly straightforward explanation for his love of a good collaboration.

"The reason I like to collaborate so much is to try to make sure it never gets stale because, if you do this and it's stale, you might be a dick," Homme said.

Likewise, seminal industrial rock act Nine Inch Nails also released a new album this year. Out last month, Hesitation Marks is the eighth studio LP from the pioneering project led by musical mastermind Trent Reznor. And with Rolling Stone pinning it with four stars, it's no lemon.

The album was recorded with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder, whom Reznor worked with on scored soundtracks for films The Social Network and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which also won him a bunch of awards.

Founded by Reznor in 1988, Nine Inch Nails have sold more than 30 million albums worldwide. They are renowned for their live shows so we can't wait to see what they'll unleash in P-Town.

The gig is set to be opened by Australian-born punk deity Brody Dalle, who'll deliver tracks from her extensive catalogue as a solo artist and member of the Distillers and Spinnerette.

Queens of the Stone Age and Nine Inch Nails hit Perth Arena on March 11.

Tickets go on sale October 24 at 9am via Ticketek.
