WATCH: Large chunk of ice falling from sky narrowly misses council worker on street
A large block of ice has plummeted from the sky and smashed onto a road just metres from a street cleaner and pedestrian.
Footage captured by security cameras in Kew, London, showed just how quickly the chunk of ice shattered when it struck the ground, with small pieces flying across the road.
At the moment of impact, believed to have been on Wednesday, the council worker can be seen standing in the gutter on the other side of the road.
He jumps and then appears to look around in disbelief as sections soar past him.
The worker, named Serhiy Myeshkov, spoke with the Richmond & Twickenham Times and estimated that the block weighed around 10 kilograms, saying he felt very lucky it missed him.
"It all happened very quickly,” Mr Myeshkov said.
“I wasn’t scared, but it could kill you."
The worker said he was sweeping when he heard the loud bang when the block "fell from either a plane or from the sky".
According to Sky News the incident occurred in an area underneath a busy flight path which leads to Heathrow Airport.
Reports claim it is rare for ice to fall from planes, but it can happen if ice forms on an aircraft or if there is a water leak from a plane and the liquid freezes and later breaks off.

A spokesman for the UK Civil Aviation Authority said: “Although ice does very occasionally fall from aircraft, it can also be the result of meteorological phenomena."
The spokesman said about 30 ice fall reports are received annually in the UK, however added they "are not certain how many of these incidents are the result of ice falling from an aircraft”.
