'Fit and healthy' man dies of blood clot days after Covid vaccine

A man described as “fit and healthy” by his family has died just days after receiving a coronavirus vaccination.

The 55-year-old man, from Tamworth in NSW, died on April 21 as a result of blood clots in his lungs, the Northern Daily Leader reported.

It is unclear what type of vaccine he was given, and it’s unknown whether his death was linked to the vaccine.

A family member told the publication the man received the jab on April 13 before his health declined.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) told Yahoo News Australia it was aware of the case but could not comment on individual cases due to patient confidentiality.

“The reporting of an adverse event to TGA post vaccination does not mean the event was caused by the vaccination,” the TGA said in a statement.

“All reports to the TGA of death following vaccination are reviewed to assess the likelihood that the vaccine contributed to the event or medical condition that lead to a fatal outcome.

“This review is undertaken by clinical staff and includes gathering and considering relevant clinical information on the patient’s current and past medical history, risk factors and medications at the time of vaccination as well as any tests such as pathology and clinical notes, and where necessary involves discussion with the relevant state and territory health departments and the individual's health professionals."

NSW woman's death 'likely linked' to vaccine

The news comes two weeks after the death of a NSW woman, who developed blood clots days after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccination.

Genene Norris, 48, from the Central Coast, was placed on dialysis after developing blood clots on April 9, one day after receiving the vaccination.

The TGA found her death was “likely to be linked to vaccination”.
