Two teenagers have been charged over the stabbing death of a 26-year-old carpenter in Melbourne’s southeast.

Emergency services were called to Station Street at Seaford about 6.55pm (AEDT) on Wednesday after reports a man had been stabbed.

The man, identified as tradie Cam Smith, was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

A 19-year-old man, from Somers – a coastal suburb also southeast of the city, was arrested on Thursday night and was charged with murder.

"He was held over to be presented before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today (Friday)," Victoria Police said in a statement.

A 17-year-old boy, from the southeastern suburb of Frankston, was charged with affray, intentionally causing injury and committing offences while on bail.

He was remanded to appear in children's court on Friday.

Homicide detectives continue their search for a third male and a female who they also believe to be involved in the incident.

Mr Smith's family have paid tribute to the alleged victim.

His father told 3AW his son "wanted a family and his life was snuffed out in a matter of minutes".

Mr Smith's sister said her brother was "taken far too soon".

“My beautiful brother was horrifically taken from us,” she wrote.

“My brother was the most kind hearted, generous, hard working, loving person you could ever meet. I am feeling so numb.

“A beautiful soul, way too good for this world. Our life will never be the same again. My heart is shattered. A piece of me is missing.”
