New dad dies in crash after visiting his wife, newborn in hospital

A young father has been killed in a head-on crash with a vehicle that was allegedly fleeing police just after visiting his wife and newborn baby in the hospital.

Kevinn Quinn, who served two deployments in Afghanistan, had just been visiting his wife Kara and their newborn daughter, Logan, at the maternity department of Cape Cod Hospital in Massachusetts.

As he made his way home, he was hit head-on by another vehicle with two occupants inside. The 32-year-old was rushed to the nearby South Shore Hospital with severe injuries but later died.

The driver of the other car, Mickey A. Rivera died instantly, while his passenger 24-year-old Jocelyn Goyette was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“(Saturday) should have been, you know, a day filled with nothing but joy… it just turned into this senseless tragedy,” his friend Rob Dinan told WCVB News.

A GoFundMe page set up by a family friend has nearly reached its target of $70,000 (US). It described the heartache that the young family is now enduring.

“He was supposed to be returning to the hospital later that morning to bring them both home to begin their new life with their daughter,” the page read.

“Kevin was very much excited but nervous about being a father.

“We all told him that he was going to do just fine as a dad and that we felt really bad for any guy that wanted to date his daughter when she was old enough.”

The crash remains under investigation.
