Neglected dog found with collar embedded into his neck

WARNING - DISTRESSING DETAILS: A neglected dog is lucky to be alive after he was found tied to a post with his collar cutting into his neck.

Earlier this year, Gary, a pitbull was found at a mobile home park in the US state of Kansas. Rescue workers said his tight collar almost cost him his life and sedated him to free him from the rope.

"The wound is about 1.5 inches deep and dangerously close to severing his jugular vein," rescue group Beauties and Beasts, Inc said on Facebook in July.

"The abuse and neglect that continues in this world and our community is heartbreaking. These innocent animals are paying the ultimate price living in a society of humans that treat them as disposable objects."

'Sweet' dog now in desperate need of a new home

Beauties and Beasts continued to provide updates on Gary and asked for donations to cover his medical bills.

He was described as a "sweet boy" who had lived a "horrible life of neglect", though they did say he is quite dominant.

"We may never know how someone allowed this to happen to him but are grateful for the opportunity to erase the pains of the past and rewrite his future," Beauties and Beasts Inc said.

Gary has since made a full recovery and his neck has now completely healed. However, he has one more challenge ahead of him — finding a new home.

Beauties and Beasts Inc said he has nowhere to go and is in need of someone to foster or adopt him.

Since making a full recovery, he has become bored at the vet's kennel and "deserves better".

Sadly, due to an influx of "post-Covid returns", there is an "overwhelming" number of dogs at the shelter, so Beasts and Beauties Inc is paying for his board at the vet.

The rescue group is looking for someone who is an experienced owner with a fenced yard. It's unclear if Gary is "dog friendly", so he may need to be the only animal in his new home.
