Mum's heartfelt tribute to son 'electrocuted' at Fiji resort: 'Love you forever'

Cairo Winitana from Sydney was found in a flower garden at a Fijian resort and could not be revived.

A Sydney mum has left a heartfelt tribute to her eight-year-old son, five days after it's believed he was electrocuted at a holiday resort in Fiji.

Cairo Winitana was found in a flower garden at the Club Wyndham Denarau Island hotel on Thursday night by a guest. Unresponsive, he was rushed to a local hospital but pronounced dead shortly after by medics.

Fiji Police say it appears the boy was electrocuted “however the post mortem will have to confirm that”, AAP reports.

“I loved you my son from the moment I found out I was carrying you,” Amber De Thierry wrote on Facebook accompanied by pictures of her children, “and will love you forever more my beautiful, beautiful blue eyes.”

Tributes have poured in for the Sydney family, who are originally from New Zealand.

“I wish I could take all your hurt and pain away,” Cairo’s great aunt said online. “My great nephew, may you still love your bugs, frogs and taddies with your papa.”

“I’m so sorry for your loss, I have no words,” someone else commented. “Sending you and your family love and light.”

“My heart goes out to you and the whanau,” another wrote. “I couldn’t imagine what you’re all going through.”

Almost $20,000 raised to bring son home from Fiji

A GoFundMe page has since been set up to support Cairo’s parents “as they navigate through this unimaginable nightmare they are now forced to live with”.

“Our beautiful little boy Cairo, only eight years old, loving son of Amber and Clarke, passed away in a tragic accident whilst on holidays in Fiji,” the organiser Glenys Wana wrote. “They now have the heartbreaking job of bringing their son home from Fiji and laying him to rest at home in Australia.” So far more than $18,000 has been raised since the fund was set up two days ago with more than 150 people making a donation.
