Mum's $9 million Powerball win after psychic's 'prediction'

A mum has claimed a whopping $9 million Powerball prize after a psychic predicted somebody in her family would win a major prize.

The woman, from Carnes Hill in Sydney's southwest, came forward to claim the prize after a desperate hunt to track her down following Thursday's Powerball draw 1306.

The winner told The Lott her mum had recently seen a psychic who predicted somebody in her family would win a life-changing lottery prize this year, an amount that would help out her relatives.

The mum added she had been talking to her sister just the day before about what she would do if she won the money.

She said she would buy her sister and herself a new car, pay off their mortgages and treat herself to a pair of diamond earrings.

The Sydney woman discovered her win on Friday morning after seeing news there was a hunt for a mystery winner.

"I am shaking! I am crying," she told The Lott after receiving the life-changing news.

"I saw on Facebook someone had won almost $10 million.

"Then I looked a little closer at the post and realised that the ticket was purchased from the same place that I had bought mine."

The mum said she bought the life-changing ticket with $13 she had won on another lotto ticket.

"I guess [the psychic] was right," she said.

"It's an incredibly feeling. It will be amazing."

Winning Powerball numbers

The Powerball ticket was purchased at the Carnes Hill Newsagent at Carnes Hill Marketplace.

Owner Yiu Ho said it was the biggest division-one winner ever sold at the newsagent.

"Congratulations to her. She has a wonderful future ahead of her and we hope she really enjoys her prize," he told The Lott.

The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1306 were 5, 12, 10, 6, 2, 24 and 25 with the all important Powerball number of 20.

The Lott spokesperson Lauren Cooney said the latest multi-millionaire was the eighth Powerball division-one winner this year.
