Mum reveals terrifying ordeal after losing son at festival

A mum became sick with panic at a festival when her two-year-old son vanished for more than an hour in a crowd of hundreds.

Sam Kerr was at Wahroonga Food and Wine Festival on Sydney’s Upper North Shore on Sunday with her husband when suddenly their son Hugo disappeared.

“I was running around everywhere and basically screaming, I then to started to vomit (fun). My husband is part of the Rural Fire Service and got a few friends to do perimeter checks and check the local train station,” Mrs Kerr told Yahoo News Australia.

“Hugo was missing for about 20 minutes before we spoke to security or got organisers involved.”

She said staff were about to bring in helicopters when, by some form of miracle, she spotted her son safe and in the company of two women.

“Two mums had found him up the other end near the road and he was crying. They tried to calm him down and gave him water and kept him safe,” Mrs Kerr said.

Following the traumatic ordeal, which could have had a far worse ending given Hugo has mild sensory issues, the mum appealed for help in tracking down the ladies so she could thank them properly.

“I owe those two mums my life,” she said.

In response to a post she made to a local community Facebook group, one of the women involved in finding Hugo revealed herself.

“I was one of the mums – there was me, my two girlfriends and one of their husbands that came across him – and honestly, there is no more thanks needed,” she wrote in a comment.

“We just did what we hoped any person would have done had it of been one of our own children. We all have kids and know how quick they can get away from you.

“We saw you, your beautiful son and husband throughout the rest of the day and to see you all reunited is enough ‘additional’ thanks for us. I wish you and your family all the best, take care.”
