Baby among dead after passenger plane crashes into homes

A small passenger plane with six people on board has crashed into residential homes in the Salt Lake City suburb of Utah leaving three people dead.

Authorities said a 9-month-old on board is among the dead and multiple people are injured.

Of the people onboard, an adult female is in critical condition, a 2-year-old child is in a stable condition and a 12-year-old child was treated and released, according to local police.

A 72-year-old woman whose house was struck by the plane, is in critical condition, police said.

The Piper PA-32 aircraft went down shortly after take off from South Regional Airport about 1:30 pm on Saturday (local time).

Nine news reported witnesses who said the plane struggled in the air and made a hard turn just moments before it crashed.

The crash site was ‘Surreal’

A witness named Laverne told local outlet KUTV she saw a woman badly burned lying on the grass outside a home, describing the scene as "surreal”.

“The smoke, the flames, just people running everywhere, screams from this woman…everyone was in that yard helping this poor woman and pulling people out of the plane,” she said.

Another witness said there were at least two adults and two children on board who were alive after the crash.

Neighbour Emilee Bond shared a video of the crash which happened two doors away from her home.

The video shows flames billowing from one home, just metres away from a basketball hoop.

Three homes were damaged and one property burst into flames.
