Motorcyclist's ridiculous act while being pursued by police

If you’re in the middle of committing one infringement and are being pursued by police, it’s probably not smart to commit another offence.

But apparently that nugget of common sense was less important than getting a perfect Instagram snap for this motorcyclist.

Highway Police have posted a picture online of a man they were chasing on the M1 Motorway in NSW this week when the driver decided that instead of pulling over it was a good time for a selfie.

The rider overtook a marked police vehicle on the motorway, near Berowra, heading towards Newcastle on Tuesday afternoon.

Police performed a check on the WA licence plate and found that it had expired about three years ago. They then gave pursuit and attempted to pull the driver over at a nearby truck stop.

“Whilst police had all warning devices, horn sounding, in close proximity to the motorcycle, the male driver removed a black iPhone from his jacket using his left hand,” NSW’s Traffic and Highway Patrol Command explained.

“He then held the phone in front and to the left of his face and whilst crossing the Hawkesbury River bridge, took a selfie.”

Thanks to his quick-thinking, the motorcyclist added to his rap sheet when police caught up with him.

“He was eventually stopped and issued two infringements, unregistered and use mobile,” highway patrol said.

Hope the likes were worth it.
