Mixed results for Esperance

The Esperance Cricket Association had mixed results from last weekend’s annual Country Cup Twenty20 matches against the Eastern Goldfields and Kalgoorlie-Boulder Cricket Association after ending the tri-series with a win and a loss.

Esperance kick-started their campaign with a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Kalgoorlie-Boulder after the locals won the toss and elected to bat.

Esperance’s tight bowling and fielding was the key as Kalgoorlie-Boulder openers Mitch Graham (26) and Daniel Colling (25) added 46 for the first wicket.

But Esperance hit back to stall their innings – restricting them to 6-113.

In reply, Esperance were 3-37 before the third-wicket stand of 77 by Shane Tobin (28 not out) and Reece Griffiths (45 not out) guided Esperance to victory in the 14th over.

Taking on the Eastern Goldfields, Esperance won the toss and batted. Shane Tobin (38) was again a standout as his side managed 7-107 from their 20 overs.

Nick Willis, Aaron Heal and Brendan Anderson all took two wickets.
