Microlight plane crashes in SA's Mid-North

A man has survived after his microlight plane crashed to the ground at Burra, in South Australia's Mid-North.

Dave Allen, 54, set off in his airborne microlight at around 8am but soon came into strife, crash landing on the Burra Golf Course.

His wife watched on while he made several failed attempts to land in strong winds.

"The wing stalled and he dropped a few metres, I just heard a loud thud," his wife Kate Allen said.

He was later airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with severe hand injuries.

Mr Allen has since undergone surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.
