Mum and daughters threatened in terrifying break-in

A mother and daughters have had guns held to their heads during a horror home invasion on the Gold Coast.

Karyn Middleton was sleeping in when three men came crashing into her Mermaid Waters home.

"Guns in my house, people in my house and my girls were here," a shocked Ms Middleton said.

The attackers, wearing black ski jackets, masks and gloves, dragged her out of bed.

While one had a gun, the others had knives and they told Ms Middleton to stay in the corner while they and ransacked her bedroom.

"Ransacked the draws, Steve's draws, my bedside table draws still screaming at me: 'where is the money?'"

Her daughter, 16-year-old Starr was woken by the screams and ran into the hall.

"Two men actually got their gun and tried to putting it at my head because his head was here and there was guns here."

The girls refused to give in and fought back.

"They said F-off ... one's ended up punching me in the face."

As the attackers fled, two people inside the house followed them onto the street and ripped the number plates off their car.

The would-be robbers left empty handed.

The home invasion lasted a terrifying 15 minutes.

Starr said of the attack: "I've never seen a gun before so seeing that really makes you think in two seconds your life could be taken away."

The family will now upgrade security at their home, fearing the attackers may return.
