Melbourne woman attacked while jogging escaped to fast-food restaurant

A woman fled to a nearby fast food restaurant after being sexually assaulted while jogging in Melbourne Tuesday night.

The jogger was grabbed from behind while running the popular fitness trail along Merri Creek in Coburg, north of the CBD, on Tuesday evening, police said.

She managed to flee and raise the alarm with employees at the nearby restaurant before being taken to hospital for treatment.

The offender fled the scene.

A 25-year-old Coburg man was arrested in relation to the assault in Carlton about 1.30am Wednesday.

He is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

Detectives from the Sexual Crime Squad unit are investigating the incident.
