Melbourne man stabbed in brazen daylight attack

A man has been stabbed multiple times during a brazen daylight attack in Melbourne.

Police say the man was found with deep wounds on Geelong Rd in Footscray around 10:30am.

The man, who police believe is aged in his 30s, was taken to The Alfred Hospital and treated for lacerations to his upper body.

Ambulance spokesman Ray Rowe also said the victim was suffering from a mild case of hypothermia.

Victoria Police say they are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the stabbing.

“Police are trying to ascertain the why it has occurred and how it has happened,” said spokesman Marty Beveridge.

“A man with slash wounds was found when emergency services arrived at the scene.

"Someone called ‘000’ and notified police, whether that was a passer-by or someone that the victim knew, is unknown.

"The investigation is in the hands of local detectives. As he was suffering from hyperthermia there is a fair chance that he had been there for some time.”
